Director, Hildemar Dos Santos, DrPH, MPH

Dr. Dos Santos is a Preventive Care Specialist who teaches at the Preventive Care Program at Loma Linda University. Dr. Dos Santos teaches the courses Lifestyle Diseases and Risk Reduction, Stress Management, Smoking Cessation and Substance Abuse Prevention. He is an MD (Brazil) and has an MPH in Nutrition and Health Promotion as well as a DrPH in Preventive Care from Loma Linda University.  He also chairs the Loma Linda University Church Health Ministries Committee. Dr. Dos Santos has worked in the area of prevention for more than 30 years. His focus and specialty is community health. He believes in the empowerment of  communities to develop healthy environments and behaviors to prevent diseases that are lifestyle-related.




Director, Joel Fuhrman, MD

Dr. Fuhrman is a family physician who specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional and natural methods. He is the author of several books on nutrition, weight loss, disease reversal and prevention, and is widely published in professional journals as well as lay publications. He is a frequent speaker on nutrition at hospitals and for corporate wellness programs, as well as for TV and radio. Director, Ernie Medina Jr., DrPH, MPH, CHFS

Dr. Medina is a preventive care specialist who, in 1993, started working at Beaver Medical Group in Redlands, Ca., where he focuses on obesity, diabetes, stress management, and smoking cessation. Dr. Medina also co-founded MedPlay Technologies which focuses on using the latest technologies ("active video games" or "exergaming") to promote behavior change. Dr. Medina holds an MPH in Health Promotion and a Doctorate in Public Health in Preventive Care. He is a certified Health and Fitness Specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Medina is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Loma Linda University. Belonging to numerous associations, he is an active member on the American Public Health Association's Physical Activity Special Interest Group. He is also the former Executive Director of the American Preventive Care Association.



Director, Dexter Shurney, MD, MBA, MPH

Dr. Dexter Shurney currently serves as Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, and Medical Director, Employee Healthcare Plan, for Vanderbilt University and Medical Center. He has an extensive background in health care management and policy. In 2007, he was named to Chair Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen’s Diabetes Prevention and Health Improvement Board. He serves on the board of the American College of Medical Quality and represents ACMQ as the organization’s delegate to the American Medical Association. Previous positions that Dr. Shurney has held include chief medical officer for the disease management and wellness company, Healthways, Health Policy Strategist in the department of Global Government Affairs for the biotechnology company Amgen Inc., chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and editor of the Journal of Managed Care Physicians. Dr. Shurney is board-certified in general preventive medicine and public health.




Director, Irene R. Willingham, MD, RD

Dr. Willingham is a board certified neurosurgeon and registered dietitian. After retiring from the practice of neurosurgery, she pursued a long standing interest in health and fitness. The result was the creation of Aeon Health, a model for a community lifestyle health center. Aeon provides the resources and infrastructure necessary for a sustained, effective, multi-disciplinary approach to lifestyle medicine practice. Dr Willingham trained and studied at Baylor College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, and University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Currently Aeon Health serves as an internship site for Southern Methodist University’s Department of Applied Physiology and Wellness.




Director, Wes Youngberg, DrPH, MPH, CNS, FACLM

Dr. Wes Youngberg trained at Loma Linda University where he earned a Doctorate in clinical preventive care and a master’s degree in nutrition. He is on the clinical faculty for the Loma Linda University Schools of Medicine and Public Health, is a board Certified Nutrition Specialist, and a founding director and Fellow for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Youngberg and his family spent 14 years as medical missionaries in the Western Pacific where he was Director of the Guam SDA Clinic Wellness Center. This was followed by three years as Director of the Lifestyle Medicine Clinic and Wellness Center for Rancho Family Medical Group.In January of 2011, Dr. Youngberg established his own lifestyle and nutritional medicine clinic in Temecula, California. He is the co-host of the Hope Channel's "Naturally Gourmet" with Karen Houghton, and has produced various DVD video series, including: "Transforming Sickness into Health" and "Controlling Cravings with Contentment".
