Director, Hans Diehl, DrHSc, MPH, FACN, CNS

Dr. Diehl is the director of the Lifestyle Medicine Institute in Southern California. He is a Cinical Professor of Preventive Medicine at the School of Medicine at Loma Linda University and a Lecturer at the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Rockford. Having worked with the lifestyle pioneer, Nathan Pritikin, early in his professional career, Dr. Diehl has more than 25 years of experience in the emerging field of lifestyle medicine.  He is an epidemiologically trained lifestyle interventionist and has shown through his Coronary Health Improvement Project (CHIP) how simple lifestyle changes can prevent, arrest and reverse many of our largely lifestyle-related diseases. With more than 50,000 graduates, the clinical results of this community based lifestyle intervention program have been published in peer reviewed medical journals. As a best-selling author, researcher, dynamic speaker and motivator, he is a pioneer in the lifestyle medicine movement.



Director, Joel Fuhrman, MD

Dr. Fuhrman is a family physician who specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional and natural methods. He is the author of several books on nutrition, weight loss, disease reversal and prevention, and is widely published in professional journals as well as lay publications. He is a frequent speaker on nutrition at hospitals and for corporate wellness programs, as well as for TV and radio. Director, Liana Lianov, MD, MPH, FACPM

Dr. Lianov has served as the Chief Medical Officer for Quality and Safety at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since 2008. Previously she held positions as the Director of the Healthy Lifestyles Division and the Director of the Medicine and Public Health Division at the American Medical Association. She provided leadership for public and health care provider education in the area of healthy lifestyles and advocated for policies that support health promotion and disease prevention. Much of her career has been dedicated to directing the cancer and cardiovascular disease prevention programs at the California state level. She currently chairs the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) Lifestyle Task Force and is a member of the ACPM Policy Committee.  Her greatest professional interest is in promoting public and health professional methods for creating sustainable health behavior change.  Dr. Lianov is board-certified in Preventive Medicine/Public Health and in Internal Medicine and completed a psychiatry fellowship focused in cognitive behavioral therapy.


Director, Dexter Shurney, MD, MBA, MPH

Dr. Dexter Shurney currently serves as Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, and Medical Director, Employee Healthcare Plan, for Vanderbilt University and Medical Center. He has an extensive background in health care management and policy. In 2007, he was named to Chair Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen’s Diabetes Prevention and Health Improvement Board. He serves on the board of the American College of Medical Quality and represents ACMQ as the organization’s delegate to the American Medical Association. Previous positions that Dr. Shurney has held include chief medical officer for the disease management and wellness company, Healthways, Health Policy Strategist in the department of Global Government Affairs for the biotechnology company Amgen Inc., chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and editor of the Journal of Managed Care Physicians. Dr. Shurney is board-certified in general preventive medicine and public health.



Young Director, Greg Steinke, MD, MPH

Dr. Steinke is a Resident Physician at Loma Linda University Family and Preventive Medicine Residency, Lifestyle Medicine Track.  He has served as Chief Resident of the residency and has completed a Masters in Public Health, majoring in Nutrition.  He enjoys lecturing extensively on the benefits of healthy lifestyles.  He has served as a Director of several community-based Coronary Health Improvement Project (CHIP) programs. Dr. Steinke is a founding member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) and serves as Secretary of the ACLM Foundation.






Director, Ron Stout, MD, MPH

Dr. Stout currently serves as Medical Director for Procter & Gamble's Global Health and Wellbeing Business Unit.  He was previously the Medical Director for Preventive Medicine and Occupational Services at Kettering Medical Center. He served the U.S. Air Force as: IMA, Office of the Air Force Surgeon General, Occupational and Environmental Medicine Consultant, Senior Preventive Medicine Consultant and a Principal Investigator, Air Force Health Study. Dr Stout serves on the American College of Preventive Medicine as MidWest Regent, as a Trustee of the American Board of Preventive Medicine and on the Board of Editors, Chemical Health & Safety. He is board certified in Family Practice, Preventive Medicine/Public Health and Occupational Medicine.




Director, Wes Youngberg, DrPH, MPH CNS

Dr. Youngberg has served as clinical assistant professor at LLU, is a Certified Nutrition Specialist, and is a founding Director for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. From 1994 to 2008 he served as the Director of a medical clinic wellness center in Guam.  He has lectured to medical conferences throughout Asia and the USA. Today, he is Director of the Rancho Wellness Center and Lifestyle Medicine Clinic for the Rancho Family Medical Group in Temecula, California. Using Lifestyle Medicine principles, he develops and conducts HMO and PPO based disease state management programs designed for optimal health improvement in high risk patients. Dr. Youngberg has 20 years of clinical experience using integrative therapies for diabetes control, depression recovery, cardiovascular disease reversal, and effective management of many chronic health conditions.
