Director, Sami A. Bég, MD, MPA, MPH

Sami A. Bég, MD, MPA, MPH, currently serves as the Associate Medical Director of U.S. Preventive Medicine and its subsidiary, U.S. Care Management. Recruited to help develop and launch a new web based prevention and wellness product for employers and individuals, Dr. Bég was among the first few employees at the start-up and joined as the first full time physician at the company in 2007.  In addition to business development and clinical programs leadership, he works closely with employers to promote lifestyle medicine and create a culture of health at worksites.   Dr. Bég has a background in health services management and policy and in 2010 was appointed by the mayor of Jacksonville to the Mayor's Council on Fitness and Well-being for the City of Jacksonville, Florida.

Dr. Bég received his Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY and completed his residency in Preventive Medicine at the New York State Department of Health and SUNY University at Albany.


Director, Ashley Maltz, MD, MPH

Dr. Maltz is an Integrative Medicine physician practicing in Connecticut. She completed a combined Internal and Preventive Medicine Residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas. She then went on to complete a 2 year clinical Integrative Medicine Fellowship at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT in conjunction with a 1000-hour 2 year distance fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. During her Fellowship, she has undergone clinical training in medical acupuncture, trigger point injections, nutrition, mind-body therapies, botanicals and herbs. She enjoys helping her patients improve their lives through health.



Director, Dexter Shurney, MD, MBA, MPH

Dr. Dexter Shurney currently serves as Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, and Medical Director, Employee Healthcare Plan, for Vanderbilt University and Medical Center. He has an extensive background in health care management and policy. In 2007, he was named to Chair Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen’s Diabetes Prevention and Health Improvement Board. He serves on the board of the American College of Medical Quality and represents ACMQ as the organization’s delegate to the American Medical Association. Previous positions that Dr. Shurney has held include chief medical officer for the disease management and wellness company, Healthways, Health Policy Strategist in the department of Global Government Affairs for the biotechnology company Amgen Inc., chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and editor of the Journal of Managed Care Physicians. Dr. Shurney is board-certified in general preventive medicine and public health.




Director, Irene R. Willingham, MD, RD

Dr. Willingham is a board certified neurosurgeon and registered dietitian. After retiring from the practice of neurosurgery, she pursued a long standing interest in health and fitness. The result was the creation of Aeon Health, a model for a community lifestyle health center. Aeon provides the resources and infrastructure necessary for a sustained, effective, multi-disciplinary approach to lifestyle medicine practice. Dr Willingham trained and studied at Baylor College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, and University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Currently Aeon Health serves as an internship site for Southern Methodist University’s Department of Applied Physiology and Wellness.




Director, Wes Youngberg, DrPH, MPH, CNS, FACLM

Dr. Wes Youngberg trained at Loma Linda University where he earned a Doctorate in clinical preventive care and a master’s degree in nutrition. He is on the clinical faculty for the Loma Linda University Schools of Medicine and Public Health, is a board Certified Nutrition Specialist, and a founding director and Fellow for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Youngberg and his family spent 14 years as medical missionaries in the Western Pacific where he was Director of the Guam SDA Clinic Wellness Center. This was followed by three years as Director of the Lifestyle Medicine Clinic and Wellness Center for Rancho Family Medical Group.In January of 2011, Dr. Youngberg established his own lifestyle and nutritional medicine clinic in Temecula, California. He is the co-host of the Hope Channel's "Naturally Gourmet" with Karen Houghton, and has produced various DVD video series, including: "Transforming Sickness into Health" and "Controlling Cravings with Contentment".
